How to control which DOORS client is opened for export from Microsoft Word to DOORS

Question

If an export from Microsoft Word to DOORS is initiated the wrong DOORS client version is used. How can I control which DOORS client is opened for export ?

Cause

The first DOORS Client Version installed will set all required registry entries. Any additional installed DOORS version will not update certain registry entries.
Hence Word will always use the DOORS version which was installed first.

  1. Navigate to this registry location:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{5b833c90-fc9e-11ce-9efc-524153480001}\LocalServer32

    - there should exist a string called "(Standard)"
    - the value of that string should point to the DOORS client binary file (doors.exe) which is currently opened if a Microsoft Word to DOORS export is initiated
  2. Change the value to the DOORS client binary file which should open instead
  3. Save your change
  4. Open Microsoft Word and start a new export to DOORS
