How to use the Activity::General::AutoSelectControlOrObjectFlow and Activity::General::SimulationMode properties in IBM Rational Rhapsody

Question & Answer

Question

How do I set the default type of flow when creating activity diagrams in IBM Rational Rhapsody

Cause

You observe that when drawing control flows in activity diagrams they are appearing as object flows and vice versa, by default.

Answer

The behaviour of the Activity::General::AutoSelectControlOrObjectFlow is directly dependent on the value of the diagrams Activity::General::SimulationMode property.

When Activity::General::SimulationMode is set to TokenOriented and Activity::General::AutoSelectControlOrObjectFlow is True, Rhapsody will automatically replace an object flow with a control flow, unless at least one of the elements you are trying to connect is an action pin or object node. With Activity::General::AutoSelectControlOrObjectFlow set to false, you will get a warning when invalidating this object flow rule.

When Activity::General::SimulationMode is set to StateOriented, Rhapsody will automatically replace a control flow with an object flow.
