Troubleshooting
Problem
With IBM InfoSphere Guardium, sometimes the guard_tap.ini file content may get lost (usually as an undesirable and unintended effect of some external, non Guardium related, action or problem that occurred on the database server). When this happens, the Guardium STAP status shows red on the Guardium appliance despite the GUARDIUM_STAP service is running on the Services Panel.
Symptom
The STAP status is red.
No traffic is being captured.
The GUARDIUM-STAP service is running on the server.
guard_tap.ini content is blank (or incomplete, missing lines).
Cause
Content of file guard_tap.ini has been deleted by an external (non Guardium) source or problem.
Diagnosing The Problem
You are in presence of this problem if:
- STAP status is red on the collector
- GUARDIUM_STAP service is running
- you review guard_tap.ini file and find that it is blank (no content) or it is incomplete
Resolving The Problem
Recreate the guard_tap.ini file. Below are some ways to do this:
- Copy a backup copy of the file that you previously saved. This is the best practice.
- Copy the guard_tap.ini from another working STAP at the same STAP level. Then make necessary changes to the configuration to match current server.
- Copy the template guard_tap.ini in the Guardium STAP installation directory. Then make necessary changes to the configuration to match current server. Note that many of the parameters in the template file will be commented and you'll need to un-comment them and set them to the appropriate values for your server.
