Question & Answer
Question
What are the steps to install IBM Rational Rhapsody 8.1.3 using the Installation Manager on Linux using a response file?
Cause
Installing a IBM RATIONAL RHAPSODY in Linux using a response file will be useful , because once response file is generated then it can be used for multiple installation.
Answer
Required Software:
- Need to have IBM Rational Rhapsody installer for Linux.
- Installation manager needs to be installed in Linux system.
Step to record a response file:
- On the local machine, open a command prompt to the Eclipse directory located under the installed installation Manager directory:
Linux or UNIX systems: /install_dir/InstallationManager/eclipse
The default location for Linux or UNIX systems is
/opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse/.
- Run the command to record a response file for IBM Rational Rhapsody installation. Remember the name and location of the response file as it is needed in the later step.
Command for recording response file:
Linux or UNIX Systems: ./IBMIM –record/response_file/install_Rhapsody.xml -skipInstall
skipInstall_dir/install_Rhapsody
Where install_Rhapsody.xml is the response file being recorded and
skipInstall_directory\install_Rhapsody is the location where the skipInstall folders and files are created.
Note: The -skipInstall option records a response file without installing the Rational product The directory location
skipInstall_directory\install_Rhapsody must be a writable directory.
- After running the command installation manager will open and do the following steps:
- From the main menu, select File > Preferences > Repositories > Add Repositories.
- For the path of the Rational Rhapsody installation repository, enter disk1->disktag.inf
- Then click on install in installation manager and you should see Rational rhapsody listed.
- Start doing the installation with required option for rhapsody or you can follow the below link for the installation rhapsody in Linux.
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSB2MU_8.1.2/com.ibm.rhp.installing.doc/topics/rhp_t_iu_installing_rhp_linux.html
- Once installation is completed, you can verify the recorded file in the path given in the command. In our example it will be
/response_file/install_Rhapsody.xml path. - This recorded file can be used to install Rhapsody silently .
Installing silently with response file:
- Log in to the system as an administrator. Access the IBMIM command in the IBM Installation Manager installation location.
Linux /opt/IBM/InstallationManager/eclipse - Run the imcl command to start silent installation with the response file as input. The imcl command should be present in <IBM_Installation_Manager_install_dir>/eclipse/tools.
Command to run:
./imcl input path_name/install_Rhapsody.xml -acceptLicense-showProgess - With this IBM Rational Rhapsody will be installed silently.
