JCLI error for every job if PI24927 not installed correctly

Troubleshooting

Problem

Normally the JES2 exits for TWSz (EXIT7 and EXIT51) are downwards compatible. However there is a restriction involving PI24927 which modified JES2 EXIT51

Resolving The Problem

If while still running TWSz tracker or controller subsystem from earlier releases (8.5.0, 8.5.1,8.6, 9.1,9.2)

the JES2 EXIT51 is assembled using the higher level code (for example IWSz 9.3 or an older release

that has PI24927 applied) then it is critical that the fix for PI24927 is applied consistently- that is, in any

given LPAR, since there can only be one version of the JES2 EXIT51 running in an LPAR, the , PI24927

must be applied to ALL the TWSz/IWSz subsystems or NONE of them. The PI24927 fix is in the BASE

CODE for the 9.3 release so 9.3 always has PI24927. The other releases require a PTF.

This is true REGARDLESS of the z/OS release that is in use and regardless of whether HOLDJOB(YES)

is used or not. The key is that if the EXIT51 is assembled with the EQQEXIT macro that is revised by the

application of the PI24927 PTF (or the one in the TWSz 9.3 base code) then PI24927 must be applied for

all earlier versions of TWS z/OS that are still in use on the same LPAR.

.

If for example TWSz 8.6 is still running for a tracker and the PTF for PI24927 has not been applied

to TWSz 8.6, and the JES2 EXIT51 exit is assembled using TWSz 9.2 libraries where PI24927 has

been applied already, the following message will be seen in the tracker EQQMLOG:

EQQW774W THE EVENT CREATION ROUTINE DETECTED THAT THE JES2 EXIT51 (EQQEXIT)

EQQW774I IS ON A HIGHER RMID LEVEL (1) THAN THE SCHEDULER SUBSYSTEM
EQQW774I MODULE EQQZEV2Y WHOSE LEVEL IS 0

and all submitted jobs will receive JCLI error.

To avoid this problem if the JES2 EXIT51 is assembled using the highest release of TWSz that is
installed and this release contains the PI24927 PTF, then the PI24927 PTF must also
be applied to the earlier release of TWSz.

The PTFs for PI24927 are:

UI23864 8.5.0
UI23865 8.5.1
UI23866 8.6.0
UI23867 9.1.0
UI23868 9.2.0

For 9.3 the fix for PI24927 is in the base code (no PTF needs to be applied).

If you have questions or concerns about this please open a PMR for TWS z/OS (COMPID 5697WSZ01)
