Problem
The Team Foundation Server (TFS) addon for IBM Rational DOORS is not compatible with the Microsoft Visual Studio Shell.
Symptom
The Microsoft Visual Studio Shell might throw an exception error while loading the Rational DOORS Team Foundation Server addon.
Cause
The Microsoft Visual Studio Shell cannot load the addon because the Shell does not have the required APIs.
This issue was identified as a product defect and logged internally as defect 8244 and as APAR PI15193.
Environment
This problem is reproduced in the following environment:
- Server Build: Rational DOORS, version 9.6.x, 9.5.x
- Client Build: Rational DOORS, version 9.6.x, 9.5.x
- Operating Systems: Windows 7 64/32 bit
- Microsoft Visual Studio Professional versions 2010, 2012
- Team Foundation Server versions 2010, 2012
- Rational DOORS TFS version 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2
Resolving The Problem
WORKAROUND:
To avoid this problem, use Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate, Premium, or Professional.
