Troubleshooting
Problem
Management Console for Flash Copy Manager on windows does not display databases when "Protect and Recover Data" is selected
Symptom
The Flash Copy Manager management console may look like the following when selecting Protect and Recover Data.
Cause
There is a defect ( IC91207) which caused a 32-bit SQL Server to not be recognized.
Environment
Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit
Tivoli Storage Manager Backup/Archive Client 6.3.1.1
Data Protection MS SQL 6.3.1
FlashCopy Manager 3.2.0
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 sp4 32 bit
Diagnosing The Problem
Collect dsminfo.txt and the check bit level for the SQL server. You may see that SQL Server is 32 bit
Resolving The Problem
There are several issues that can cause the GUI to not have any items to show in the view.
In general the problem is related to the inability to connect to and/or query the SQL Server.
For example, when using the SQL Express version, which is not supported, this behavior can be witnessed. However, it is also possible to see this same "empty" view in the GUI with the Microsoft SQL Server in a supported environment. There are several APAR defects that can cause this type of behavior:
APAR IT021488: DP SQL backups failing with CSqlApi::GetSqlDatabaseNames:8551:1914 unable to get list of databases
And the following
Apar IC91207: Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager 3.x does not recognize a 32-bit SQL Server instance on a 64-bit Windows system. This APAR is fixed in 6.3.1.2 of Data Protection for for SQL and version 3.2.1 for the FlashCopy Manager. Upgrading to this or newer level will resolve the problem
