Installation of Tivoli Directory Server for Rational Focal Point fails with "GLPINS006E" error on Windows 2008

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempts to install Tivoli Directory Service (TDS) for IBM Rational Focal Point (RFP) results in the error "GLPINS006E".

Symptom

The full error message is as follows:

GLPIN006E DB2 installation failed: GLPINS089I Refer to ldapinist.log in C:\Users\Administrator for more information.


Installation cannot continue

The ldapinst.log shows the following:

<date> Setup.product.install, com.ibm.ldap.install.beans.LdapPostDb2Install, msg1, Return Code from DB2 install is: 87
<date>, Setup.product.install, com.ibm.ldap.install.beans.LdapPostDb2Install, msg1, The installation of DB2 Failed.  Review log files: C:\Program Files\IBM\LDAP\V6.3\var\db2inst.log and C:\Program Files\IBM\LDAP\V6.3\var\db2insterr.log
<date>, Setup.product.install, com.ibm.ldap.install.beans.LdapPostDb2Install, msg1, DB2 Install was not successful.

Cause

The password does not meet Windows password policy requirements.

Environment

Windows 2008 Server and Rational Directory Services (RDS) 5.2.1 for Rational Focal Point, Rational DOORS, Rational Synergy and Rational Change

Resolving The Problem

The password entered during installation must meet Windows operating system requirements and contain valid characters. In order to view the Windows password requirements, complete the steps below:

  1. Click Start > Run > type secpol.msc

  2. Click Security Settings > Account Policies > Password Policy

  3. Locate the value of the Policy called Password must meet complexity requirements

  4. Double click on this policy to find the password requirements.


Retry the installation with a password that meets Windows password requirements.
