Error description
The WMQ V7 infocenter does not explicitly state that the message descriptor (MQMD) should be passed as NULL if the message properties in the message handle is to be used at MQPUT time.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: WMQ V7 users who use message properties in message handle to supply message descriptor fields during MQPUT. Platforms affected: All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) **************************************************************** PROBLEM SUMMARY: The Message properties in message handle will not be used in MQPUT call if MsgDesc(MQMD) is not a NULL value.
Problem conclusion
1) A note has to be added to the following chapter to clarify that the usage of message properties in the message handle and MQMD Application Programming Guide -> Designing applications that use WebSphere MQ -> WebSphere MQ messages -> Message properties -> Property names -> Message descriptor fields as properties Note: Message properties in the message handle will be used only if a NULL pointer is supplied instead of a pointer to an message descriptor MQMD structure during MQPUT time. 2) Application Programming Reference -> Function calls -> MQPUT - Put message -> Parameters -> MsgDesc(MQMD) - input/output The below paragraph "The application does not need to provide an MQMD structure provided that a valid message handle is supplied in the OriginalMsgHandle or NewMsgHandle fields of the MQPMO structure. If nothing is provided in one of these fields, the descriptor of the message is taken from the descriptor associated with the message handles." should be modified to "The application does not need to provide an MQMD structure provided that a valid message handle is supplied in the OriginalMsgHandle or NewMsgHandle fields of the MQPMO structure. If a NULL pointer is passed in place of MQMD, the descriptor of the message is taken from the descriptor associated with the message handles." --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: v7.0 Platform Fix Pack 7.0.0.1 -------- -------------------- Windows U200301 AIX U821414 HP-UX (PA-RISC) U820765 HP-UX (Itanium) U821296 Solaris (SPARC) U820766 Solaris (x86-64) U820880 iSeries tbc_p700_0_0_1 Linux (x86) U821407 Linux (x86-64) U821295 Linux (zSeries) U821294 Linux (Power) U820881 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'Websphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available, information on its planned availability can be found in 'Websphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309 ---------------------------------------------------------------
