IBM WebSphere Application Server Plug-in Configuration Tool (PCT)

Troubleshooting

Problem

Where can I find information regarding the IBM WebSphere Application Server Plug-in Configuration Tool (PCT)?

Cause

Prior to WebSphere Application Server v8.0, the Plug-in installation and configuration were both done together at the same time. However, in Plug-in version 8.0 and later, the installation does not perform any configuration tasks. So, the Plug-in configuration must be performed after install by using the Plug-in Configuration Tool (PCT).

Resolving The Problem

The Plug-in Configuration Tool (PCT) is a feature within the WebSphere Customization Toolbox (WCT). In order to use PCT, you must install WCT on the same web server system where you have installed the Plug-in. Installation of WCT is done using the Installation Manager, just the same as installing the WAS, IHS, and Plug-in software. For help will installing WCT, please see this page:

Installing, updating, rolling back, and uninstalling the WebSphere Customization Toolbox:

After installing WCT, you should also update WCT with the latest fixpacks available for that version. Again, you will use Installation Manager for this. And choose the Update option. Please refer to the other links on the same Information Center page shown above for details.

After WCT has been updated, you will launch WCT and select the Plug-in Configuration Tool (PCT) to begin the configuration of the web server Plug-in.

If your web server is on the SAME system as the WAS appserver, please see the instructions on this page:

If your web server is on a DIFFERENT system than WAS appserver, please see these instructions:

Or, if you prefer to run PCT from the COMMAND LINE using a response file, please see the instructions here:

Also, it would be very helpful to watch the replay of this presentation about PCT:
