Error description
The "LABEL LIBVOLUME" command can generate an ANR9999D error message when a new volume contains a non-standard IBM tape label. This can occur for numerous reasons, but one example is that another application generated the label and it does not conform to expected IBM labeling standards. In the Tivoli Storage Manager actlog, the following messages are logged: ANR9999D_2454833596 ErrorHandler(pvrntp.c:8374) Thread<1835>: Unexpected RC=13, VOL=UNKNOWN, DRIVE=DRIVE (/dev/IBMtape1) ANR9999D Thread<1835> issued message 9999 from: ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000dc15a3 OutDiagToCons ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000dc43a5 outDiagfExt ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000eb3b06 ErrorHandler ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000eb7e0d NtpReadLabel ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000a3ac26 ReadWriteLabel ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000a497e7 ScsiLabelVolume ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000a181e5 LabelThread ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x00000000e5905a StartThread ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x000030aaa077f1 *UNKNOWN* ANR9999D Thread<1835> 0x000035582e5ccd *UNKNOWN* The root cause of this problem is that the existing label is not of an expected format (the label length is too long). Despite the error, Tivoli Storage Manager is able to re-label the volume with success (ANR8810I). The ANR9999D error is benign. Customer/L2 Diagnostics: A Tivoli Storage Manager server trace with PVR traceflag shows the following: 14:20:37.382 ■1835■pvrntp.c■7572■ReadLabelBlocks:Reading label blocks from NTP drive DRIVE1 (/dev/IBMtape1) 14:20:37.387 ■1835■pspvr.c■3960■PvrPsTapeIoctl:Tape IOCTL return code rc = 0 14:20:57.015 ■1835■pspvr.c■3835■PvrPsDevRead:handle = 12, read amt = -1, numBytes requested = 80, errno = 75 14:20:57.015 ■1835■psntpop.c■3498■DetermineResult:Error performing READ operation on drive DRIVE1 (/dev/IBMtape1); errno = 75 Initial Impact: Low Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All Tivoli Storage Manager servers on UNIX platforms.
