Error description
In WebSphere MQ 7.1 and later versions, the dspmqrte command used with the -c flag requires the mqdc.dll (or equivalent library on unix platforms) to be installed. This library file is supplied only, if the WebSphere MQ client is installed along side the server component. When dspmqrte command is used with -c flag in an environment where MQ client component is not installed, the command fails with the following type of errors: AMQ8689: Loading of client module 'C:\Program Files\mqm \bin\mqdc.dll' failed AMQ8651: DSPMQRTE command has finished with errors.
Local fix
Add the client component to the server installation. This is done by: Using the launchpad: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv7/v7r0/topic/com.ib m.mq.amqtac.doc/wq10760_.htm Or using the silent installer: msiexec /i "<PATH_TO_INSTALL_IMAGE>\MSI\IBM WebSphere MQ.msi" /l*v c:\temp\install.log /q TRANSFORMS="1033.mst" AGREETOLICENSE="yes" ADDLOCAL="Client" REMOVE=""
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere MQ version 710 and 750 users using dspmqrte command with -c option. Platforms affected: All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) **************************************************************** PROBLEM SUMMARY: At WebSphere MQ version 701 and lower dspmqrte command can be run as a client application by using the -c option on a WebSphere MQ server installation that does not have the client component is installed. However, at version 710 and above the dspmqrte command can be run as a client application only if WebSphere MQ client component is installed. The WebSphere MQ Info Center for the version 710 and 750 needs to updated with this information.
Problem conclusion
The following sections in WebSphere MQ Infocenter WebSphere MQ Reference -> Administration reference -> WebSphere MQ control commands -> The control commands WebSphere MQ -> Monitoring and performance -> Message monitoring -> WebSphere MQ display route application -> Parameters for trace-route messages that documents the parameter description for the -c option should include the below. "This option can be used only if the client component is installed." in addition to the existing description that states -c Specifies that the WebSphere MQ display route application connects as a client application. If you do not specify this parameter, the WebSphere MQ display route application does not connect as a client application. Also, the text in the section WebSphere MQ -> Monitoring and performance -> Message monitoring Note: To run a Client Application against a WebSphere MQ for z/OS queue manager, the Client Attachment feature must be installed. should be modified as Note: To run a Client Application against a queue manager, the Client Attachment feature must be installed.
