Error description
The following error can occur in the Tivoli Storage Manager actlog after an I/O error was reported from the IBM device driver in the system log: ANR9999D_2697328974 CheckPosition(pvrntp.c:xxxx) Thread<XXX>: NtpOpReadBlockID: failed on volume XXXXXXXX drive XXX (/dev/xxx) error 1. error 1 means I/O error. This does not necessarily mean that the volume was positioned wrong. For more information review the system log or tape drive diagnostics to see what the I/O error was. The system log under - AIX is the error report (errpt) - Linux is the file /var/log/messages - Windows is the eventlog In this case, a more meaningful message (instead of ANR9999D_2697328974 CheckPosition) would have been: ANR8302E I/O error on drive drive name with volume volume name (OP=internal code, Error Number=internal code, CC=internal code, rc = return code, KEY= internal code, ASC=internal code, ASCQ= internal code, SENSE=sense data, Description=error description). Refer to the Tivoli Storage Manager documentation on I/O error code descriptions. Customer/L2 Diagnostics Example from /var/log/messages from a Linux system: Aug 2 05:44:36 xxxxx lin_taped[1856]: lin_taped: beginning failover for IBMtapeXXX, hba x, channel 0, id xx, lun xx Aug 2 05:44:36 xxxxx lin_taped[1856]: wake up device IBMtapeXXX with result -1 Aug 2 05:44:36 xxxxx kernel: [5857767.456675] lin_tape: IBMtapeXXX failover failed.
