Error description
On a Tivoli Storage Manager Server that has been upgraded from version 5 to version 6, directories archived prior to the upgrade expire when the retention period for the management class they are bound to is reached even if there are still files dependant on these directories. Only directories archived at version 5 before the upgrade to version 6 are affected. Directories archived after the upgrade to version 6 are not affected. Users performing the retrieve from the GUI or webclient will not be able to browse the directory structure if the directories have been expired. Users performing the retrieve from the command line will not notice a problem, however since the directories are not available for retrieve, they will get created using the default permissions and attributes rather than the original permissions and attributes. Customer/L2 Diagnostic: Using DB2 select queries, it's possible to query the archive_objects table to see if the PARENTHL column has a value or not. For example, if we know the archive was done on 2011-05-03 for node: NODE1 db2 connect to tsmdb1 db2 set schemat to tsmdb1 db2 select nodeid from nodes where nodename='NODE1' (use the value returned in the command above with the command below, for the example, let's assume the nodeid returned was 97) db2 "select HL,LL,OBJID,DESCR,PARENTHL from archive_objects where nodeid=97 and date(insdate)='2011-05-03'" > select.out Consult select.out and check if the PARENTHL column is populated or has a NULL value. If there are only NULL values, this APAR applies. Versions Affected: Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.1, 6.2 or 6.3 that was upgraded from version 5.x. Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: imar_parenthl
Local fix
To retrieve files from the GUI: - click on Retrieve as normal. - from the left pane, select the archive to retrieve from - from the Edit menu, click on Find - in the Filename drop down, select a proper filter and enter a filename in the field next to it - click on Search to find the file - retrieve the file Alternatively, perform the retrieve from a command line. If necessary, use the -pick option to find the file(s) to be retrieved if the exact path is not known. Example: dsmc retrieve c:\directory\* -su=yes -pick dsmc retrieve /directory/* -su=yes -pick
