How to reconnect Rational Doors 9.3 after moving your Rational Change server

Question & Answer

Question

How do you reconnect IBM Rational DOORS 9.3 with IBM Rational Change after the Rational Change server has been moved?

Cause

In a Rational Change for DOORS interface configuration the existing links from Rational DOORS to Rational Change are broken when the Rational Change server has been moved.

Answer

Note:

  • This applies only to Rational DOORS 9.3 using OSLC and also applies to Requirements Change requests (RCR) only and not to Implementation Requests (IRs).
  • Other steps are necessary for Rational DOORS 9.4 and 9.5 and the earlier DOORS-Change Interface 5.7 that does not use OSLC.
  • Other steps are also necessary for Implementations Requests (IRs) in Rational DOORS 9.3 using OSLC.

Steps required to re-establish links from Rational DOORS to Rational Change:

  1. Log into the Rational DOORS client as a user with database manager rights.

  2. In DOORS menu, navigate to 'Change Management' > "Define Configuration Templates'.

  3. In the following dialog, open and modify each configuration template in turn. Change the 'URL for Change Management Server' to the new server-name or ip-address, then continue to Step 5 of the 'Configuration Template' setup and select 'Finish'.

  4. Find every file in the DOORS database server data/conf/u1000001.dir that contains the Change server URL and replace it with the new Change server URL. Depending on the number of RCRs you have, the number of files can be quite large.

An example list of files that may contain the Change server URL are:
    C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.3\data\conf\u1000001.dir\applyInfo\1+AF8-rcp+AF8-175+AF8-
    C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.3\data\conf\u1000001.dir\csint+AF8-00000020\1+AF8-rcp+AF8-175\rcpUrl
    C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.3\data\conf\u1000001.dir\csint+AF8-templates\config+AF8-template+AF8-1.dat

Files with 'template' in its name should not appear in your list of files that need changing as these contain the template details which should already have been changed in step 3. above.

One possible solution for Linux/Unix to find such files is to run a command such as this in DOORS_HOME/data/conf/u1000001.dir:

    find . -type f -exec grep -l '<current_URL>' {} \; > rcr_URL_files.txt
