Error description
When the tsmscsi tool, provided with Tivoli Storage Manager Server, is used for defining the library and drive devices on a Linux platform it may create a lbinfo file with incorrect characters for the "Vendor ID", "Device_Serial_Number" and "Product_ID" fields instead of the correct values. For example the following can be found in the lbinfo: > Tivoli Medium Changer Devices: > ============================== > Index Minor Host CHN ID LUN Type Vendor_ID Device_Serial_Number > Product_ID Rev. > > 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 > 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 ` > 000 000 000 000 000 000 255 > 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 u while a correct lbinfo should show: > Tivoli Medium Changer Devices: > ============================== > Index Minor Host CHN ID LUN Type Vendor_ID Device_Serial_Number > Product_ID Rev. > > 000 019 002 000 007 001 008 STK 123456G+1234SY1234 > SL150 0201 > 001 021 002 000 002 001 008 HP DEC123456V MSL G3 > Series 1070 > 002 023 002 000 003 001 008 HP DEC123456X MSL G3 > Series 1070 > 003 027 002 000 000 001 008 HP DEC123456J MSL G3 > Series 1070 Customer/L2 Diagnostics: It has been identified that the problem is caused by the "ddinfo" command contained in the "tsmscsi" tool. The value in the Index, Minor, Host, CHN, ID, LUN, Type, and Rev is set to 00 by ddinfo in this case, however, the "Vendor ID", "Device_Serial_Number" and "Product_ID" should be set by the value from IOCTL operation on the device. Therefore, "Vendor ID", "Device_Serial_Number" and "Product_ID" will have incorrect characters. Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All Tivoli Storage Manager Server 6.x and 7.x on Linux Platform. Initial Impact: Low Additional Keywords: tsmscsi ddinfo garbage zz61 zz62 zz63 zz64 zz71
Local fix
Edit the "tsmscsi" tool and add the following entry just a line before the ddinfo command: sleep 1 Save the "tsmscsi" tool then re-run it again.
