IT30812: MQ Resource Adapter IVT sample application "wmq.jmsra.ivt.ear" fails to deploy to WebSphere Application Server

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• An attempt is made to deploy the MQ Resource Adapter
  Installation-Verification-Test (IVT) sample application named:
  
    /opt/mqm/java/lib/jca/wmq.jmsra.ivt.ear
  
  from the IBM MQ v9.0.0.0 version, to the WebSphere Application
  Server (WAS) v9.0.0.0.
  
  This deployment fails, and the application server's
  SystemOut.log file reports the error message:
  
  org.eclipse.emf.common.util.WrappedException:
  org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid
  content was found starting with element 'lookup-name'.
  

Local fix

• Look to remove the resource-ref element from the following file
  within the wmq.jmsra.ivt.ear package:
  
    wmq.jmsra.ivt.ear/WMQ_IVT_MDB.jar/META-INF/ejb-jar.xml
  
  The resource-ref element to remove is the following section:
  
  &#09;&#09;    <resource-ref>
                  <res-ref-name>jms/cf1</res-ref-name>
  
  <res-type>javax.jms.QueueConnectionFactory</res-type>
                  <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
                  <lookup-name>JMS2CF</lookup-name>
              </resource-ref>
  
  Then repackage and deploy the .ear file into the WebSphere
  Application Server.

  This issue affects users of the Installation, Verification and
  Test (IVT) sample application for the IBM MQ Resource Adapter,
  as supplied in the Enterprise Archive (EAR) file at the
  location:
  
    ${MQ_INSTALLATION_ROOT}/java/lib/jca/wmq.jmsra.ivt.ear
  
  when attempting to use the application within WebSphere
  Application Server environment.
  
  This issue is not known to affect other application servers (eg.
  JBoss, WebSphere Liberty Profile).

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  The basic functionality of the IBM MQ Resource Adapter as used
  within the WebSphere Application Server environment can be
  tested using the sample IVT application which is supplied with
  the IBM MQ installation at the location:
  
    ${MQ_INSTALLATION_ROOT}/java/lib/jca/wmq.jmsra.ivt.ear
  
  However when attempting to deploy this into the WebSphere
  Application Server environment, an error would be encountered
  during the deployment phase.
  
  The WebSphere Application Server "SystemOut.log" file would
  report the following exception:
  
  Creating the project.
  An unexpected exception was thrown. Halting execution.
  Shutting down workbench.
  Error executing deployment:
  org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.commonarchivecore.internal.exception.Deploy
  mentDescriptorLoadException. Error is META-INF/ejb-jar.xml.

  As the deployment of the IVT application had failed, it could
  not then be utilised.
  

Problem conclusion

• The IVT Enterprise Archive (.ear) file has been updated to allow
  it to be deployed into the WebSphere Application Server
  environment.
