Error description
The dismount operation of a Linux VM Restore Point may fails if more than one restore point of the same Linux VM are selected in the "Restore Points" panel of the Data Protection for VMware User Interface. The Windows error log reports the message: "ANS3171E The attempt to unexport Linux file system failed with error: exportfs command failed." This happen because the unexport is already performed by dismounting the first restore point. In such case the volumes of the related restore point are not dismounted. Products affected: IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware Mount Proxy version 7.1 and 8.1 on Linux x86 platform IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V Mount Proxy version 7.1 and 8.1 on Linux x86 platform If you are using Data Protection for VMware 8.1 refer to APAR IT27294 If you are using Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V 8.1.4-8.1.6, refer to APAR IT27295 If you are using Data Protection for VMware 7.1.8 or Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V 7.1.8 or 8.1.0-8.1.2, refer to APAR IT26220 Note 1: The Backup-Archive Client is a prerequisite to using the Data Protection for VMware version 7.1. In Data Protection for VMware environments, the Backup-Archive Client is also known as the data mover/mount proxy. Note 2: The Backup-Archive Client is a prerequisite to using the Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V versions 7.1 till 8.1.2. In Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V environments, the Backup-Archive Client is also known as the data mover/mount proxy.
Local fix
Re-export the fs manually on the Linux mount proxy and proceed with the dismount operation for each single mounted snapshot, by using the following command: exportfs -i -o ro,nohide,crossmnt,no_root_squash <full_network_share>:/tsmmount/mount_export/<network_share> E.g: exportfs -i -o ro,nohide,crossmnt,no_root_squash VM001.company.com:/tsmmount/mount_export/VM001

Problem conclusion
When two or more restore points of the same Linux virtual machine are mounted with NFS sharing enabled, the shared path component is common for all the mounts. When a single backup is unmounted, it unexports the shared folder, leaving the other mounted restore points in such a state that they can not be unmounted normally, due to the failure of the exportfs command. The behavior has been changed, so the shared folder component contains the backup time stamp, so is unique for every mounted restore point.
