Error description
A guest file level restore mount operation can fail with the following messages in the mount proxy node dsmerror.log : ANS3101E The mount operation for virtual machine '<guest name>' failed with rc = 6541. ANS4446E A file restore mount operation for VMware Virtual Machine '<guest name>' failed. The data center node name is '<target node>', the mount proxy node name is '<mount proxy node>'. The reason is that the Recovery agent service is unable to connect to the mounted backup image using iSCSI. This APAR applies when the Proxy host has more than one communication adapter on the same network and protocol subnet and that the adapter expected to be used with iSCSI is not the first one in the list as seen from the Microsoft command IP config. For example Environment: computer with two communication adapter with 192.168.100.248 and 192.168.100.42 on the same subnet. In this configuration Spectrum Protect and Recovery Agent can use any network interface card (NIC). So it is possible situation when SP uses the first NIC and Recovery Agent (RA) uses the second NIC. As result RA fails to communicate with SP agent. Even attempting to use the selected adapter address with the command : 'RecoveryAgentShell.exe -c set_connection mount_computer <hostname or desired IP address of the host where the Recovery agent is running>' will not help. Products affected: IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware Recovery Agent version v7.1.8, v8.1.2, v8.1.4 and v8.1.6 on Windows platform. IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V Recovery Agent version v7.1.8, v8.1.2, v8.1.4 and v8.1.6 on Windows platform If you are using Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V version v7.1.8, v8.1.2, v8.1.4 and v8.1.6 refer to APAR IT27159 Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: TS000847863, mount, iSCSI, restore, file-level, time out
Local fix
Ensure the adapter selected to be used for iSCSI is on top of the list as seen with the 'ipconfig' OS command. Use the following procedure to set the desired IP as the first address in the list when you run the command 'ipconfig' : 1. Click on the Windows start button -> click on 'run...' 2. In the command line run 'ncpa.cpl' 3. This will bring up the 'Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections' window 4. Press on Alt+N 5. This should bring up a menu window, in that one click on 'advanced settings' 6. This will show you the advanced network settings window On the right hand side of the 'Connections' windows which is showing you all your IP adapters, you see and up and a down arrow. 7. Just select the iSCSI adapter, then with the up arrow move it on the to of the list. 8. Click on OK to validate the new settings and verify it is taken up into account by running again a 'IPconfig /all' 9. retry the mount operation.

Problem conclusion
Data Protection for VMware and Data Protection for Hyper-V Recovery Agent has been modified to correctly work in multi NIC environment. If your data mover system has more than one network card, make sure that you specify the correct network card for Recovery Agent Shell and Recovery Agent. (Note: the following procedure is only applicable after installing the fixed version.) 1. Set the ISCSI server IP address: go to C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\RecoveryAgent\mount\RecoveryAgent.conf file and specify the [IMOUNT config] tag and Target IP parameter: [IMOUNT config] Target IP=<IP address of the network card on the data mover systemthat exposes the iSCSI targets.> For example: [General config] param1 param2 ... [IMount config] Target IP=172.20.13.223 After you add or change the Target IP parameter, restart the Recovery Agent service. 2. Set the IP address of the network card on the data mover system that is used for connection to the Recovery Agent: go to "C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\RecoveryAgent\shell\RecoveryAgentShell.ini" file and specify the [HOSTNAMES] tag and "Mount-Adrs-List" parameter ... [HOSTNAMES] Mount-Adrs-List @ 172.20.13.223 (it is important to use IP instead of network name) ...
