Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM MQ on the Linux (x86/x86-64) platform who have installed an MQExplorer component RPM Fix Pack package: MQSeriesExplorer-Uxxxx-x.x.x-x where 'xxxx-x.x.x-x' corresponds to the fix pack version, such as '8007-8.0.0-7'. The version of RPM which is used is also significant. Older versions of RPM such as that supplied with RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) v6 did not report the warning messages. More recent operating systems which supply a more recent version of RPM do report the warnings, which include the operating system versions: SUSE 12 RHEL 7 Ubuntu 14.04 This problem only affects the MQ v8.0 release. Platforms affected: Linux on x86-64, Linux on x86 **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: APAR IT08513: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1IT08513 corrected a problem where the Fix Pack packages on Linux were not enabling the new MQExplorer plugins as supplied with the v8.0 Fix Packs. In doing so, a backup of the default installation location directory: /opt/mqm/mqexplorer/eclipse was created, such that when the Fix Pack was uninstalled, the state of the MQExplorer installation would return to the same state as before the Fix Pack was applied. However, when the Fix Pack package was being removed, the ordering of the restoration of this backup was incorrect. The directory (and so also its contents) : /opt/mqm/mqexplorer/eclipse was removed first. The RPM package manager then attempted to remove the files corresponding to the Fix Pack package, which included the files in /opt/mqm/mqexplorer/eclipse. However these had already been removed by the previous step of the uninstallation process. The directory was then restored to the previous contents of this directory from the backed up archive. By default, older versions of RPM did not report any messages to the console listing the missing files in the deleted /opt/mqm/mqexplorer/eclipse directory. However newer versions of RPM such as that supplied with RedHat Enterprise Linux v7 do report warning messages for each file which was found to be missing, which produces output of the form: warning: file /opt/mqm/maintenance/8.0.0.7/MQSeriesExplorer/opt/mqm/mqexplorer /eclipse/runwithtrace: remove failed: No such file or directory for every file which was originally under the directory: /opt/mqm/mqexplorer/eclipse Other than producing excessive output to the console, there was no negative consequence to these warning messages. RPM is warning that the files are missing, as it attempts to remove them from the filesystem.
Problem conclusion
The MQExplorer Fix Pack uninstall scripts have been updated to delete the directory: /opt/mqm/mqexplorer/eclipse after RPM has had the opportunity to remove the files associated with the Fix Pack package, which prevents the warning messages from being output by RPM. While the problem reported does not affect IBM MQ v9.0, the equivalent code change has been included to pro-actively guard against introduction of the issue at this release. --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: Version Maintenance Level v8.0 8.0.0.8 v9.0 CD 9.0.4 v9.0 LTS 9.0.0.3 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'WebSphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available information on its planned availability can be found in 'WebSphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309 ---------------------------------------------------------------
