Error description
Error Description: In IBM Spectrum Protect client the snapdiff backup fails when specifying an UNC path in the stagingdirectory option. For example the following command: dsmc incr \\mytestmachine\vol_cifs1_migr$ -optfile=dsm.opt -stagingdir="\\ mytestmachine \c$\vol\udmfi4\" -node=my_node -snapdiff will fail with the following error reported in dsmerror.log: ANS1626E An unexpected error was encountered when processing a TSM operation using a hardware or snapshot function. TSM function name : NAHWInterface::naPerformSnapDiff TSM function : Snapdiff DB initialization failed TSM return code : -1 TSM file : ..\..\common\hci\NAHWInterface.cpp (4404) ANS5250E An unexpected error was encountered. TSM function name : baPerformSnapDiff TSM function : failed to perform snapdiff TSM return code : 653 TSM file : ..\..\common\ba\backsnap.cpp (6132) ANS2832E Incremental by snapshot difference failed for \\ mytestmachine \vol_cifs1_migr$. See the error log for details. ANS1228E Sending of object '\\ mytestmachine.sum.local\vol_cifs1_migr$' failed. The operation was unsuccessful. Local fix
Local Fix : Map the UNC path to a drive letter. For example: NET USE K: \\ mytestmachine\c$\vol\udmfi4\ /U: local\appbck * and use the assigned letter in the value for the stagingdirectory option: dsmc incr \\ mytestmachine\vol_cifs1_migr$ -optfile=dsm.opt -stagingdir=K: -node=mynode -snapdiff

Problem conclusion
The problem when the client incorrectly parses the path specified in the UNC format has been fixed so that it no longer occurs. Note, that the problem also affects few client options (dedupcachepath, diskcachelocation and others) connected with the path setting.
