Error description
The command "dsmc query systeminfo" executed on a "Windows 2016 Server Core" installation will display the following messages: "Collecting operating system information. This may take a few minutes... 'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Operating system information collection is complete. Unable to open file 'dsmmsinfo.txt' QUERY SYSTEMINFO output has been written to file dsminfo.txt" With "Windows 2016 Server Core" installation, the "msinfo32.exe" is only located in the "C:\windows\system32" folder. Unfortunately, the IBM Spectrum Protect client searches for this utility in the "C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\Msinfo" folder, this path is hard coded. "Windows 2016 Server Core" doesn't have such a folder so the client fails to start "msinfo32.exe". Other "Windows 2016" installation will not show the problem if the "msinfo32.exe" is also found at the hard coded location. IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected: Client 8.1.x on Windows 2016 Server Core Initial Impact: Low Additional Keywords: TSM nfo Server2016
Local fix
- Create the following directory structure: C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\MSinfo C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\MSinfo\en-us - copy C:\windows\system32\msinfo32.exe to "C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\MSinfo\" - copy C:\windows\system32\en-us\msinfo32.exe.mui to "C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\MSinfo\en-us\"
