Error description
When replicating inactive data that has no active version it can become the active version on the target server. This happens when the data was deactivated on a Tivoli Storage Manager 6.3 server and this data is replicated from a 7.1.x, to another 7.1.x server. The data becomes the active version on the end target server. This only happens when DISSIMILAR POLICIES is enabled. This will be seen in two scenario's:- 1) Replicate Node from 6.3.x server to server version 7.1.1 or higher and to a second server at 7.1.1 or higher OR 2) Upgrade 6.3.x server to version 7.1.1 (or higher) and then replicate to another 7.1.1 (or higher) server. This could occur when using dissimilar policies, both source and target servers are 7.1.1 or higher and the source server contains files backed up and deactivated while at 6.3.x. Customer/L2 Diagnostics: This can be recreated using the following steps:- Server A - 6.3.x Server B & C - 7.1.x - backup a directory to server A - delete a file from the directory and backup again - replicate from server A to server B - Issue REMOVE REPLNODE on server B to break the pair with A - replicate from server B to server C Example: After this sequence, with DISSIMILAR POLICIES (DP) enabled, the file on server C was active. With DISSIMILAR POLICIES disabled, the file on server C was still inactive. DP A (6.3.x) -> B (7.1.4) -> C (7.1.4) Yes Inactive Inactive Active No Inactive Inactive Inactive Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: 7.1.1 and higher on all supported platforms | MDVREGR 7.1.1.0-TIV_5698MSV | Initial Impact: Low Additional Keywords: TSM IBM Spectrum Protect
Local fix
Disabling DISSIMILAR POLICIES should allow the data to be replicated and remain inactive.
