IT12388: TIVOLI STORAGE MANAGER CLIENT MAY CRASH DURING HSM FOR WINDOWS MIGRATION JOB

IBM Spectrum Protect client 7.1.4.x interim fix downloads

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• During a during HSM for Windows  migration job the Tivoli
  Storage Manager Client may crash if the freed memory is padded
  with characters other than zeros.
  
  When HSM for Windows migration uses backupBeforeMigration option
  then the backup command dsmc incremental -filelist=<path> is
  submitted. This dsmc command crashes during an attempt to free
  memory which was already freed but padded with characters other
  than zeros. Under this condition the Tivoli Storage Manger
  client command for incremental backup with option -filelist may
  also crash if HSM for Windows is not involved.

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been fixed. The backup command does not crash
  anymore, because a second attempt to free the same memory is
  prevented.
  

Temporary fix

• A fix for this problem is currently targeted for interim fix
  package 7.1.4.1. Until the interim fix is actually available
  this information is subject to change at the discretion of IBM.
