Error description
In the event an out of space condition at the operating system, the FlashCopy Manager local snapshot database can be corrupted and lost. This out of space condition is against the drive on which the adsm.sys\vss_staging folder is stored (by default this is the system drive). The initial out of space issue will exhibit the following failure during a backup: FMV1768E TSM was unable to find space for a new snapshot. FCM function name : vssInitBackupSpec FCM function : No Space available for new backup. FCM return code : 115 FCM file : ..\..\common\winnt\vssback.cpp (1604) The failure can result in the corruption of the local snapshot database. The next attempt to use the local snapshot database will detect the corruption, but will fail to recover from the saved copies even though those copies are present. Further backup attempts will result in FMV1236E (RC115) and FMX5060E API failures. The restore tab will no longer show historical backups available for restore. The following additional entries may be present in the dsmerror.log: cuGetBackQryResp: Server aborted txn, reason: 255 FMV5250E An unexpected error was encountered. FCM function name : vssQueryBackup FCM function : cuGetBackQryResp() returned '255' FCM return code : 255 FCM file : ..\..\common\winnt\vssquery.cpp (964) Versions Affected: FlashCopy Manager 3.1, 3.2, and 4.1 on Microsoft Windows Customer/L2 Diagnostics: A trace of the backup attempt will show the following entries confirming that the database is corrupt: [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\vs\fmdb.cpp( 391): fmDbReadCtrlRec(): Reading cacheObject control record for db file C:\adsm.sys\vss_staging\.TsmFmDatabases\TsmFm__<NODENAME>_0000. ObjectsDB.TsmFmDb' ... [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\db\jbbtreev.cpp(4311): btDbReadCtrlRec(): database is in corrupted state. [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\db\cacheobj.cpp(2110): dbReadCtrlRec(): Error 228 reading btree control record. [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\vs\fmdb.cpp( 522): fmDbReadCtrlRec(): corrupt database detected . The recovery phase then starts and fails to recover the database. This indicates that the database has not been saved, however review of the vss_staging shows there are copies (these are listed with a .saveDb extension): [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\vs\fmdb.cpp( 182): fmDbCheckRecovery(): corrupt database detected. [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\vs\fmdb.cpp( 226): fmDbCheckRecovery(): Starting recovery of db C:\adsm.sys\vss_staging\.TsmFmDatabases\TsmFm__<NODENAME>_0000. ObjectsDB.TsmFmDb' ... [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\vs\fmdb.cpp( 238): fmDbCheckRecovery(): Recovery failed, database C:\adsm.sys\vss_staging\.TsmFmDatabases\TsmFm__<NODENAME>_0000. ObjectsDB.TsmFmDb has never been saved. [020660] [12804] : ..\..\common\vs\fmdbobj.cpp( 967): fmDbObjDbOpen(): fmDbCheckRecovery(C:\adsm.sys\vss_staging\.TsmFmDatabases\TsmFm __<NODENAME>_0000.ObjectsDB.TsmFmDb): returned 230.
