Error description
RFE 36691: ITM messages are filling RKLVLOG and are not useful. The change will be to suppress the messages if the user is contained in a list. The list is provided by a new TEMS variable that the customer can modify as needed. This provides a nice compromise in that we should still be able to see these messages in most cases while suppressing the messages for "userids" that generate excessive numbers. Here are the messages at issue for the MSG2 (Operation) log => KDSMA011 Logon successful to server SRVR01 user DSTSNS ip.pipe:#aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd(10111). KDSMA009 User DSTSNS logged off serverSRVR01.
Local fix
None presently exists, thus the RFE !
Problem summary
IBM Tivoli Monitoring "logon/logoff" messages are filling up RKLVLOG. When any IBM Tivoli Monitoring component does a logon or a logoff to the monitoring server, the respective KDSMA009 and KDSMA011 messages are recorded in MSG2/Operation log file. There can be use cases that result in large numbers of these KDSMA009 and KDSMA011 messages being recorded to MSG2/Operation log file. The large volumes of KDSMA009 and KDSMA011 messages result in excessive growth of MSG2/Operation log file and this can be an undesirable effect on the log file. In order for this APAR to be properly implemented in your environment, a new environment variable has been added. See the "Install Actions" section of the APAR conclusion for more details.
Problem conclusion
Install Actions: A new monitoring server environment variable was added, named KDS_USERS_NO_MSGLOG. One may declare this environment variable and assign it a comma delimited list of User IDs that will NOT output KDSMA009 and KDSMA011 messages to MSG2/Operation log file. For example, setting the environment variable "KDS_USERS_NO_MSGLOG=DSTSNS,KCJ,sysadmin" would suppress output KDSMA009 and KDSMA011 messages to MSG2/Operation log file for the users specified. User IDs specified may be one or more of the ITM internal IDs, e.g. KCF,DSTSNS, SRVR01, etc and/or one or more of the customer's defined User IDs, i.e. sysadmin. Three important notes: (1) Default mode is message suppression is 'unarmed'/disabled. (2) User IDs are case-sensitive and (3) the Logon/Logoff text of KDSMA009/KDSMA011 messages will still be recorded in the monitoring server's RAS1 trace log, given appropriate KBB_RAS1 settings.
