IV77842: UNABLE TO COMPLETE WF PROCESS IN CLONED APP WHEN USING ROUTEWF ACTION IN INTERACTION NODE

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • ERROR DESCRIPTION:
BMXAA4407E - A nested exception caused the workflow process to
    fail (null)

    PROBLEM:
Having an issue using the Mobile Change Approvals application
to complete workflow task assignments that are followed by
    Interaction
nodes that call a Change application action. Happens with a
    Mobile (Everyplace) and cloned application.

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    1. Create a simple workflow with one task node and one
    interaction
node that uses a Workorder application action.
    2. Create a new WO record and manualy route the TEST workflow
    to create
a new workflow WO assignment to the current user.
    3. Navigate to the Work Order cloned mobile app application
    4. Open the WO
    5. Click on Route WF icon and choose the action on the dialog
    for the
    interaction node
    6. System navigates to the base WOTRACK app and displays an
    error.

    CURRENT ERRONEOUS RESULT:
BMXAA4407E - A nested exception caused the workflow process to
    fail
    (null)

    EXPECTED RESULT:
    Workflow process to complete

    ENVIRONMENT (SYSTEM INFO):

    PROBLEM:
Unable to complete workflow task assignments that are followed
by interaction nodes that specify an application that differs
from the current application in which the interaction node has
    been executed.

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    1. In Application Designer, create a clone of the Work Order
    Tracking application.
    2. Create a simple workflow with one task node and one
interaction node that uses a Workorder application action. Make
sure that the interaction node's application is specified as
    WOTRACK.
    3. In the cloned Work Order Tracking application, create a new
WO record and manualy route the TEST workflow to create a new
workflow work order assignment to the current user.
    4. After making sure that you are in the cloned application,
click on Route WF icon and choose the action on the dialog
corresponding to the workflow you created in Step 2.
    5. Click OK to complete the interaction.
    6. After completing the interaction, user is brought from the
current application (cloned Work Order Tracking) to the
    interaction node application
(out-of-box Work Order Tracking) List tab, and the following
    error dialog is encountered:

"BMXAA4407E - A nested exception caused the workflow
    process to fail (null)."

Problem conclusion

  • Workflow configuration option to "Stay on Current App" has been
added to interaction nodes. This allows for access to the
actions of another application without forcing a switch to the
interaction node application upon completion of the interaction.
Workflow processes with interaction nodes that specify an
application-specific action and that are used in multiple
applications no longer attempt to switch applications when these
nodes are configured to "Stay on Current App", thereby avoiding
undesired application switching and the "BMXAA4407E - A nested
exception caused the workflow process to fail (null)." error.
