Troubleshooting
Problem
Basic FIFO setup and general information
Symptom
PART: DCS 6.2 SP2 DCS
Basic FIFO setup and general information.
Cause
Resolving The Problem
Some information based on the following questions....
1. I didn't find a
general "Concept Document" on how FIFO works within DCS.
The Example FIFO
Logic describes a good example of FIFO. We have no "FIFO Concept Document".
Search on FIFO using the DCS 6.2 DCS_Help.chm document. The Example FIFO Logic
topic will be listed.
2. I found several sections on FIFO setup, but
no document that takes you step by step through the complete setup
process.
Basically, the setup includes:
Location Setup (09253)
All
locations where FIFO needs to be maintained, should have 'Inventory by
Receiver' flag to be set to
Y.
**************************************
Inventory Rules
(09003)
Online FIFO ---> Y
When this is set to Y, FIFO will be maintained
in the warehouse. FIFO will be maintained for all SKUs in the warehouse, in
locations where inventory by receiver is set to Y.
FIFO gen Reqd
--->Y
Dummy FIFO ---> N/A
FIFO Period ---> 15
Number of days
for FIFO Period. If this value is high, it means you will be violating true
FIFO, but pick and storage efficiency will be high. If this number is low, then
FIFO will be more accurate, but pick and storage efficiency will be low.
**************************************
FIFO number is generated when
receipt is made.
When product is received into the warehouse, the
current FIFO period is computed based on the number of FIFO periods that have
elapsed from start of the year (January 1) to current date. FIFO number
assigned is the start date of the current FIFO
period.
**************************************
Storage Rules
(09013)
Mix FIFO ---> N
This indicates that, while suggesting location
for putaway, products with different FIFO numbers will not be mixed in one
location.
**************************************
Location Selection
Rules (09304) and Location Selection Sequence Rules (09001)
When
location selection rules are defined either for picking or for replenishment,
order sequence should be set to consider FIFO. Then, locations in the bulk
storage will be considered in the sequence of FIFO number in the
inventory.
Order Seq (In Location Selection Rules) ---> 05 (FIFO)
4.
In the documents, it shows the FIFO number being a Timestamp type number
generated off the FIFO Period. Not sure where the ASN number comes in. Our
question was does this Timestamp FIFO # get updated when an old item happens to
get put back into bulk.
The FIFO number will be inserted into the Reciever
Number field. This is why the Location Setup must be to have the locations
track by Receiver number.
