Error description
Error Message: A java/lang/NullPointerException is not caught within a try/catch block when executing on an EC12 Z/Architecture machine. . Stack Trace: N/A . The exception is in a try/catch block and it is not properly caught when the method is JIT compiled.
Local fix
This issue can be worked around using the -Xjit:disableZHelix option. Note however that the addition of this option will impact performance.

The JIT compiler fails to properly set up the exception ranges for try catch blocks under certain conditions on an EC12 machine.
Problem conclusion
The JIT compiler has been updated to properly set up the exception ranges. . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 8 SR1 FP10 (8.0.1.10) 7 R1 SR3 FP10 (7.1.3.10) .
