JVMJ9VM015W Initialization error for library j9gc23(5): Failed to allocate default memory space

Question & Answer

Question

JVMJ9VM015W Initialization error for library j9gc23(5): Failed to allocate default memory space

Answer

Failed to allocate default memory space indicates that the JVM could not get enough memory to continue processing. The error is as follows

JVMJ9VM015W Initialization error for library j9gc23(5): Failed to allocate default memory space
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

The most probable reason can be  memory consumption by several other processes on the system. To avoid this error make sure there is enough free memory available for the JVM to initialize. One possible option could be to stop processes on the system(that are not necessary at that moment) to give JVM sufficient memory to initialize.
