Question & Answer
Question
WMS: Behavior of flag "Freeze on Variance" in location configuration. Can the flag be turned off to unfreeze the location?
Answer
On completing count operation if there is a variance, how can a location be put on variance hold or marked for Freeze on variance?
- There is no configuration at location level to freeze the location or put the location on variance hold.
- Put on variance hold flag is available in Sterling Applications Manager (Sterling configurator) under:
- WMS tree -> Inventory -> Count -> Variance Hold Set up
- WMS tree -> Warehouse Layout -> Zones -> Double click on the zone -> Zone details are shown. Navigate to "Task Execution Preferences tab -> "Put on variance Hold" is available.
- Check this flag under any of the above listed places.
- On
counting, if there is a variance, the flag at location level "Freeze On
variance" will get automatically checked.
This means that the location is marked for freeze and no further operations can be performed on this location until the hold is removed.
What is the behavior seen once a location is marked for freeze on variance?
System will not
consider the location (marked for Freeze on variance) while allocating
inventory during system-driven wave release and putaway.
However, if a
user creates a manual move request to move inventory from this location or
perform adhoc move, then system allows moving out the inventory from this
location.
Manual move request creations or adhoc operations are usually user-driven activities done by the Warehouse Manager or the users who are aware of the location being on variance. Hence the creation of move task from this location is allowed.
Unfreezing the location on variance:
- Location can be removed from freeze on variance by completing the variance generated. Accepting or Resolving the variance will uncheck the freeze on variance flag on the location automatically.
- If you have
Sterling Warehouse Management system PCA, location mass maintenance screen can
be used to update the already frozen location.
This screen is accessible by the user DC manager and a part of PCA functionality. Please refer the Sterling WMS PCA product documentation for more information.
