Question & Answer

Question

DCS: Error WH2470 "WHSE_PARAMS set up absent for parm_type_1 = MNF and parm_type_2 = " logged to DCS_Alert.log by 02563 (Manifest Clie

Answer

1) Why am I seeing this error?

An enhancement was provided in DCS 6.2 SP4 which allows an admin to configure different UPS SCAC codes to use separate manifests.

This feature is explained in DCS_Help under the topic "Ability to assign UPS SCACs to separate manifests "

2) What exactly are these MNF parameters used for? Is there anything besides the UPS functionality outlined in the documentation?

MNF parameters are needed so that the customer can assign shippers with different UPS SCAC’s to different manifests. They can manifest the entire cartons (having different SCAC’s) through one manifest client and have the manifest client automatically assign the cartons to the appropriate manifest according to the SCAC. Having the separate manifests will help the customers prevent from scanning incorrect packages onto the wrong manifest and loading them onto the wrong trailers. UPS firmly states that if packages are on the incorrect trailers, or scanned onto the wrong manifests, they cannot guarantee delivery as well as charge-backs to the Customer.

3) Does a record need to be added to WHSE_PARAMS for EACH SCAC in the system? What values should be used in FLD_VALUE (for UPS carriers as well as non-UPS)

The record needs to be added to whse_params for only those SCACs for whom the manifest SCAC is UPSN. The FLD_VALUE should be the name of the SCAC for which you are manifesting the carton. For example for UPSG service, the FLD_VALUE should be UPSG only.

4) Why does the WH2470 error get thrown if the carton is not even shipping UPS?

The warning is most likely being thrown for a non-UPS shipment because the manifest SCAC for this SCAC CODE is UPSN. You can check this in 02016 for the carton's SCAC code.

Regardless, this enhancement was provided for UPS shipments only and the message shown in DCS_Alert.log is a warning and can be ignored for non-UPS shippers.

5) How do I suppress these warnings?

In order to suppress the warnings, one of the following setups are currently required.

SETUP 1: Configure the warehouse parameters to point the SCAC codes to separate UPS manifests as explained in the documentation.

1. Go to function 09289 (Whse Parameters Setup)

2. Use option 4 to create a new WHSE parameter with ‘Parm Type 1’ as ‘MNF’ and ‘Parm Type 2’ as ‘< Carrier_code>’. For example, for UPS2 Carrier code, ‘Parm Type 2 = UPSN, is to be used.

3. Enter Field Description.( can be any description)

4. The Field Value needs to be entered as ‘the actual carrier for the service (carrier code) for which manifesting is to be done’. The actual carrier for the carrier code can be found from the MNF_CARR table (i.e. MNF_CARR.actual_carrier). For example, the actual carrier for carrier code UPS2 is typically UPSN.

5. Press F3 to update.

If the warning message is logged for FedEx sevices, then a similar setup is required for FedEx also.

SETUP 2: You can "disable" the error code itself.

1. Go to Whse Error Codes Setup (09310).

2. Select option 3 to edit error code WH2470.

3. Change the value of the Err Sev Code field to 0 (None).

4. Press F3 to update.
