Error description
The Data Load utility might lose database connections when used with a customized dataload configuration that includes the store identifier and there are more stores specified than the number of available database connections in the DataSource connection pool. For example, in the dataload configuration XML file within the <_config:DataMapping> element, the StoreIdentifier is defined: <_config:mapping xpath="CatalogEntryIdentifier/ExternalIdentifier/StoreIdentifier /ExternalIdentifier/NameIdentifier" value="StoreIdentifier"/> and in the input CSV file, the number of store identifiers is more than the number of available database connections. When Catalog Upload is used in the Management Center, an error similar to the following might appear in the log: ================================================================ An error occurred while attempting to get the change control mediator. The error was: com.ibm.websphere.ce.cm.ConnectionWaitTimeoutException: Connection not available, Timed out waiting for 180000. Stack trace: com.ibm.commerce.foundation.dataload.exception.DataLoadApplicati onException: An error occurred while attempting to get the change control mediator. The error was: com.ibm.websphere.ce.cm.ConnectionWaitTimeoutException: Connection not available, Timed out waiting for 180000. ... ... ================================================================ The issue occurs because the Data Load utility uses StoreRegistry to retrieve the store owner ID, but StoreRegistry gets a new database connection every time. When there are more stores than the available connections, a connection time out occurs and the connection is lost.
Local fix
As a workaround, the CSV input files can be split such that each input file contains only a small number of distinct store identifiers.
Problem summary
USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Commerce Version 7 Fix Pack 8 or later, and WebSphere Commerce Version 8. PROBLEM ABSTRACT: During Catalog Upload of Catalog Entry Description Override, utility runs out of database connections when there are many stores BUSINESS IMPACT: Business users cannot load catalog entry description overrides in Management Center for many stores at the same time. RECOMMENDATION:
Problem conclusion
The Data Load utility was updated to execute a SQL query to retrieve the owners of the stores and save the results in memory, avoiding the need to use the StoreRegistry to retrieve that data.
