Enabling the application-based Import and Export functionality

Question & Answer

Question

How to enable data import/export directly from other Maximo applications without accessing the External Systems application.

Answer

From Maximo version 7.5 onwards, the functionality to import and export data directly from applications is supported. The application-based import and export functionality relies on the object structure component of the integration framework to define the data content and any processing classes (Java) that are needed to facilitate the exporting and importing of data. No other integration framework components (such as publish channels, JMS queues & end points) need to be configured.

For instance, if you want to enable "Data Import and Export data functionality" in Asset Application, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to Integrations > Object Structures
- Open MXASSET object structure
The main (top) object of the object structure must be the same as the main object of the application.
So, for the Asset Application, the ASSET object should be the main object of the object structure MXASSET.

If you want to use the FlatFile format, you need to check the 'Support Flat Structure' box.

2. Enable the object structure for Exporting and Importing.
Select Action- Add/Modify Application Export Support.
Click New Row - Enter the Application having a main object ASSET.

Maximum Count is the number of rows that can be exported by the user during a single execution.
Beware that setting a high number for Maximum Count causes performance issues.
Select Action- Add/Modify Application Import Support

3. Grant Security Access for Import/Export functionality.

Go to the Security Groups application
- Select the group which the user you are using belongs to.
For the Asset application, grant the “Application Import and Export” option to that group.

Save.

4. Restart your Server.
Now you can perform exporting and/or importing of data directly from the enabled application.
There are two icons displayed in the Asset application which you use for this purpose.
