Error description
SQL30020N may occur when performing a SELECT that contains a CLOB against DB2 Version 7 on z/OS. A DB2 trace will show SQL30020N RC=124C which means the DB2 DRDA layer encountered a SYNTAX ERROR due to a parsing error, although the error code reported by the application may include one or more of the following, likely on the call to SQLExtendedFetch: CLI0165E Error in row. SQLSTATE=01S01 CLI0119E Unexpected system failure. SQLSTATE=58004 SQL0902C A system error (reason code = "<reason-code>") occurred. Subsequent SQL statements cannot be processed. SQL30020N Execution failed because of a Distributed Protocol Error that will affect the successful execution of subsequent commands and SQL statements: Reason Code "". SQLSTATE=58009
Local fix
Set SQL_ROWSET_SIZE=1 using SQLSetStmtAttr() at the CLI layer.
