Error description
The Fix for APAR LI70946 ( ALTER TABLE STATEMENTS MAY RESULT IN TABLE PACKED DESCRIPTOR CORRUPTION), does not cater for corruption already existing on the system. Its workaround is to Run RUNSTATS on the tables on which the Alter command has been run previously to the fix. Access to a table with corrupted packed descriptor might casue the DB2 database to crash. There is a need to detect the corruption early and prevent traps occurring due to an ALTER statement problem.
Local fix
Run RUNSTATS on tables with corrupted Packed Descriptor
