Error description
During fresh DB2 installation, the db2icrt script may fail with the following error when creating a new instance: . DBI1281E The database manager configuration file could not be initialized. . Also, the following message will be present in the standard error output (stderr) for the db2icrt script: . ksh: /opt/IBM/db2/V9.1/instance/db2idbm: not found . ("/opt/IBM/db2/" is the full path to the install directory) . This problem happens when the instance owner does not have the necessary privileges to access the DB2 install directory, i.e. "/opt/IBM/db2/" in our case. Such privileges are necessary despite the fact that the db2icrt script is executed under root authority, as some of its actions must be executed under the instance owner's authority. . An example of the wrong permissions: . $ ls -ld /opt/IBM drwx------ 4 root system 512 Mar 6 14:46 /opt/IBM . The correct permissions should be for example: . $ ls -ld /opt/IBM drwxr-xr-x 4 root system 512 Mar 6 14:46 /opt/IBM . The purpose of this APAR is to improve DB2 installation scripts to detect the lack of permissions on the DB2 install directory, and fix this problem automatically during DB2 installation whenever possible.
Local fix
Ensure the instance owner has the required permissions to access the DB2 install directory.
