Question & Answer
Question
How to increase Rational Rhapsody to use more virtual memory?
Answer
By default Rational Rhapsody will have access to 2GB virtual memory. You can extend this to 3GB by these steps:
- Update Rhapsody.exe to set the IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE bit:
You must have Visual Studio 6 or later installed for this. Open a command prompt on the Rhapsody installation directory (where rhapsody.exe is present) and issue the following command:
editbin /LARGEADDRESSAWARE rhapsody.exe
In case, Visual Studio is on another machine, you can just copy rhapsody.exe over to that machine, execute this command and copy the rhapsody.exe back. - Update boot.ini with /3G flag:
Follow the instructions in http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx
Please exercise caution while modifying boot.ini.
- Restart the OS, and now Rhapsody should have access to 3GB.
