How to copy Analysis Wizard link information to a text attribute

Question & Answer

Question

How do you copy the Analysis Wizard link information into a text attribute using IBM Rational DOORS?

Cause

DOORS has an option to convert layout dxl to attribute dxl, but not text.

Answer

Procedure to copy the Analysis Wizard link information into a text attribute:

  1. Run the Analysis wizard with your preferred settings to capture the information needed.

A layout dxl column is created for links up to level 4 recursion.

The column heading identifies the link level, for example "In-links at depth 1".

  2. Click Tools > Support Tools > Convert Layout DXL to Attribute DXL

  3. Select the column, for example "In-links at depth 1", in the convert Layout DXL window

  4. Click Convert

A new attribute and column are created for each column you convert

  5. Create the text attribute you intend to use to store the converted information

  6. Click Tools > Functions > Copy Attributes...

  7. Select the converted Attribute DXL and the destination text attribute

  8. Click OK

Note: The intermediate step of converting is necessary because the analysis wizard creates a layout dxl which calculates the column values. The layout dxl needs to be converted into an attribute dxl value before you can use "copy attribute" function.
