IBM Support

Making Helpers File visible to Rhapsody

Question & Answer

Question

How do you make a helpers file (.hep) visible to IBM Rational Rhapsody?

Answer

There are two ways to make the helpers file visible to Rhapsody

  1. Use the property General:Model:HelpersFile.

Mention the path to the HelpersFile (.HEP) in the property and Restart Rhapsody. Rhapsody reads the HelpersFile property during its startup. Hence for the property to take effect, Rhapsody needs to be restarted after setting the property.

More about the property is available in the Properties online help in the Features Dialog.

  2. Using a profile.

Create a profile with the name same as the HelpersFile and place the HelpersFile and profile together (in the same directory).

You can also limit the HelpersFile to be available only when the profile is loaded by adding applicability to that profile.
  • In the HelpersFile, there is a variable named “applicableToProfile<N>” which can be set with a comma separated list of profile names.
  • The Helper then becomes available only when any of these profiles are selected.

Extensive documentation on creating and applying profiles is available in the "<Rhapsody Installation>\Doc\pdf_docs\Rhapsody User Guide.pdf" under the section "Using Profiles".
