Error: "Unable to create DOORS URL interface: lock file failed" when launching a DOORS client

Troubleshooting

Problem

The error "Unable to create DOORS URL interface: lock file failed" occurs upon launching DOORS Client application

Symptom

Launching the DOORS client results in the error: "Unable to create DOORS URL interface: lock file failed" .

Cause

If you are unable to write to the dxl_server_registry.dat file, then the error would be generated. The file is recreated when DOORS is launched again.

The file 'dxl_server_registry.dat' is located under C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Local Settings\Temp.

This encrypted file is used in the DOORS implementation URL support and it contains information such as list of databases to which you have connected, as well as your ID and other relevant session information.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue:

  • Rename/delete 'dxl_server_registry.dat' and its lock file. This file is created when you launch DOORS the next time.
  • Also, check to insure you have full access to the 'C:\Windows\Temp' and 'C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Local Settings\Temp' directories.
