Unable to print DOORS 8.2 module on UNIX machine

Troubleshooting

Problem

When trying to print a DOORS 8.2 module in UNIX, you may get a error that there is no default printer.

Symptom

When trying to print a module in UNIX you may get the following error:

"Print dialog failed: There is no default printer"

When you go to the File/Print Preview menu, the Printer drop-down box may only show "Generic Postscript"

Resolving The Problem

There is an extra setup that needs to be done in order to print a module from DOORS 8.2 on Unix machines:

  1. In DOORSHOME/bin directory, you need to run the file "mwcontrol" which will help you add a printer.
  2. When you run this file (mwcontrol), on the MainWin window, double-click on "Printers" icon and then "Add new printer".
  3. This will start a Wizard which is will guide you through adding a new printer.
  4. Once you run through the wizard, re-start DOORS client so that it recognizes the printer.

The wizard will need to be run by each system user wishing to print from DOORS, as the configuration information is stored in a file in their home area.
