IBM Rational DOORS error notes: Color file <PATH>\DOORS/lib/rgb is missing

Troubleshooting


Problem

Attempting to start IBM Rational DOORS client results in message "Color file '<PATH>\DOORS\lib\rgb' is missing".

Symptom

DOORS client fails to start

Cause

The error message is displayed, when the 'Home' variable in the registry contains an invalid path.
The error message is displayed, when the '-H / -home' command line switch is used to launch the DOORS client in conjunction with an invalid path.
The error message is displayed, when the file 'rgb' is missing from the DOORS Client \lib folder.

Diagnosing The Problem

Verify the configuration setting for the DOORS client.
Confirm DOORS HOME registry setting is set for the correct locationNote: Please consult your system administrator if you are unsure how to proceed. Editing registry can cause serious problems to your system.

Confirm your DOORS client shortcut contains the correct path information if you use the -H / -home switch. 

Resolving The Problem

To update the DOORS HOME setting in the registry:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, then click OK
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Telelogic > DOORS > 9.x > Config
    For example: replace 'x' with the DOORS 9 subversion
  3. Double click Home (on the right pane)
  4. In the Edit string window set the Value data to the correct path.
    For example: C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\
  5. Click OK
To update the path information in your DOORS client shortcut -H / -home switch, 
1. Right-click the short-cut
2. select 'Properties' 
3. In the 'Shortcut' tab, modify the 'Target' field to contain the correct path to your DOORS client installation folder.
    For example: C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\
4. Confirm your input and click 'Apply' 
5. Click OK
