Problem
This technote explains how to resolve a failed Verification Point message during playback, that can occur when using IBM Rational Functional Tester.
Symptom
The Image Verification Point is created during recording. During playback, the image is displayed properly. However, the playback log shows it as a failed Verification Point.
Cause
One of the possible causes for an Image Verification Point to fail (when it is expected to pass) is that the Image Verification Point is taken from the 'Root Test Object' instead of the object on the application itself.
If an Image Verification Point is created using the 'Camera' button (see screenshot below) in the first step of the Verification Point creation, the Verification Point is based on the "Root Test Object".
During playback, Rational Functional Tester will not wait for the object before validating the Verification Point. As the result, it may fail if the application or the page is not completely loaded. This option is for taking Verification Point of the "Root Test Object" (the desktop for example).
Resolving The Problem
If the Image is part of the application, it is recommended to select the object itself or the object that contains the image first, then create an Image Verification Point from that object. During playback, Rational Functional Tester waits for the object to exist before validating the Verification Point. You can accomplish that by perform the following steps:
- Selecting the object that contains the image using 'Object Finder' (instead of using the 'Camera' button):
- Select the 'Image Verification Point' radio button:
- Continue on and finish the wizard as usual
