Error description
Batch controller beans implemented in EJB 3.x may result in a CORBA.MARSHAL Incompatibility error when being called through their remote interface. Client hit the issue: org.omg.CORBA.MARSHAL: Incompatibility between Stub and Tie 0x7f at offset 0x500 vmcid: IBM minor code: 8F6 completed: No at com.ibm.rmi.iiop.CDRReader.read_abstract_interface (CDRReader.java:758) at com.ibm.rmi.iiop.EncoderInputStream. read_abstract_interface(EncoderInputStream.java:843) at com.ibm.ws.batch. _EJSRemoteCSLBatchController_0d85b24e_Tie. submitJob__com_ibm_ws_longrun_CGJob (_EJSRemoteCSLBatchController_0d85b24e_Tie.java:100) at com.ibm.ws.batch. _EJSRemoteCSLBatchController_0d85b24e_Tie. _invoke(_EJSRemoteCSLBatchController_0d85b24e_Tie.java)

Problem conclusion
WebSphere Application Server provides RMIC-generated Stub classes for the BatchController and compute-intensive CIController interfaces, which are not compatible with the EJB 3.x style generated Tie classes. The EJB container was updated to generate a Tie for the BatchController and CIController implementations that is compatible with the RMIC-generated Stubs. The error will no longer occur. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.17 and 9.0.5.3.
