Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.3 compiling and *
    *                 running COBOL programs defined with the      *
    *                 "PICTURE U" clause (i.e., UTF-8 data         *
    *                 items).                                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: General improvements to UTF-8 data item *
    *                      support for COBOL programs, including   *
    *                      addressing the following issues:        *
    *                      - a problem with UTF-8 condition        *
    *                      variables causing a compiler abort      *
    *                      - a problem where "group move"          *
    *                      operations involving a UTF-8 literal    *
    *                      sender and an alphanumeric group        *
    *                      receiver were inadvertently blocked     *
    *                      - a problem where some illegal UTF-8    *
    *                      move and compare operations could       *
    *                      result in a compiler abort instead      *
    *                      of a proper compiler diagnostic         *
    *                      message.                                *

    * RECOMMENDATION: Install the provided PTF.                    *

    Miscellaneous improvements to the new UTF-8 data item feature
    were required.
