Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server having applications using web * * services and wanting to reduce * * annotation scanning time by providing * * include-filters. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Using annotation scanning * * include-filters does not entirely * * prevent excluded JARs and packages * * from being scanned. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The following error message is displayed in SystemOut.log: AnnotationCon E CWMDF0002E: Annotation processing failed with the following error: com.ibm.ws.metadata.annotations.AnnotationException: Annotation processing failed for class: <NAME OF CLASS> However, the class displayed in the error message is one that you did not want scanned for annotations. Specifically, you have used an included-filter to specify which application JARs and packages are to be included in the scanning for applications, and the class displayed in the error message is in a JAR or package which should not be scanned. This normally will not result in an error message. Rather the result is slower performance, which might or might not be noticeable. The error message only appears if a class being scanned is corrupt.
Problem conclusion
It was found that the web services component of WebSphere Application Server had not implemented include-filters. This means that if your application contains web services, then the include-filter is ignored during web services processing. The web services code has been updated to implement include-filters. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.17 and 9.0.5.3.
