Error description
An abend occurred with the following title: DSN ,ABND=04E-00C90101,U=xxxxxxx ,M=N ,C=121.LOCN=::xx.xx.xx.xxx ,LOC=DSNIDM .DSNOGLOB:51F7 . Db2 code checked if a zEDC device was available to inflate LOB data, and received back that it was, so set a flag to indicate software inflation was not being used. This was via the FPZ4ABC service . However when the service request was made, the zEDC cards had been deactivated and rc04 rsn2000 was returned to Db2. The reason 2000 indicates: 'No zEDC devices are available. Inflate is completed in software when hardware is not available' . The decompression itself was successful. However Db2 had already set the flag to indicate software inflation was not being used and this then tripped the abend as Db2 thought the inflate hadn't been successful, when it was.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All Db2 12 for z/OS users of the LOB * * zEnterprise Data Compression(zEDC). * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * An ABEND04E RC00C90101 at * * DSNOGLOB ERQUAL51F7 might occur when * * fetching a compressed LOB column. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply corrective PTF when available * **************************************************************** An ABEND04E RC00C90101 at DSNOGLOB ERQUAL51F7 might occur when fetching a compressed LOB column. The reason for the abend is that Db2 fails to recognize the reason code indicating that the LOB has been inflated using software. As a result, the reported intentional abend is generated. Additional keywords: SQLLOB
Problem conclusion
Db2 is corrected to recognize the reason code for software inflate to avoid the abend.
