Error description

  • IBM Explorer for z/OS - zExpl v3.1.1.9

If a Copybook is changed while editing a COBOL program in the
COBOL editor, the changes are not reflected. When the COBOL
program is changed then syntax errors appear.

    For example,
Open progA in the COBOL editor.
Open a copybook member using open copybook member feature.
Add a variable to the copybook and save changes.
Add a line of code in progA that references the new variable,
    and save.
Syntax error occurs stating variable cannot be found.

Hover over the copybook shows old copybook
But, if you open the copybook using the open copybook member
feature it opens the correct changed copybook.

Local fix

  • Right Mouse click in progA
    Select Refactor > Remove noise
    Cancel
    Close editor for progA
    Open progA in Cobol editor
New copybook is found by editor
    **********
or close workspace and reopen it
