Error description

  • The Full-Function DB Sensor erroneously issues BBE1451E message

DBX_NUM_IPS when some of the VSAM statistics information
retrieved from the z/OS catalog has inconsistencies.

    ****************************************************************
While VSAM KSDS is opened, VSAM statistics in z/OS catalog
are not updated. In this condition, FF DB Sensor cannot get a
correct value for the total number of records of the VSAM KSDS.
As the result, the following errors can occur:
    - When the VSAM KSDS is an index database data set, DB Sensor
issues the message BBE1451E and ends with a return code 8. DB
Sensor does not store any of sensor data elements in the
sensor repository, and it prints incorrect values for some of
data elements in the Sensor Data Statistics Report, The
incorrect sensor data elements in the report are DBX_NUM_IPS,
    DBX_PCT_IPS_OVFL, DBX_UNUSED_BYTES, and DBX_PCT_UNUSED_BYTES.
    - When the VSAM KSDS is an HISAM database data set, DB Sensor
prints and stores incorrect values for DB_UNUSED_BYTES and
DB_PCT_UNUSED_BYTES, although it ends normally with a return
    code 0.

After applying the PTF for this APAR, DB Sensor is fixed as
follows when it detects incorrect VSAM statistics:
    - When DB Sensor runs as stand-alone, runs in Reorganization
Expert, or runs in Online Reorganiation Facility, it
caluculates the number of records by reading records in the
VSAM KSDS. DB Sensor prints and store correct sensor data
    elements.
    - When DB Sensor runs in HP Image copy or HP Pointer Checker,
it stops collecting some of the sensor data elements related
to the incorrect VSAM statistics and marks "N/A"
(not applicable) in the Sensor Data Statistics Report. The
sensor data elements are DBX_NUM_IPS, DBX_PCT_IPS_OVFL,
DBX_UNUSED_BYTES, and DBX_PCT_UNUSED_BYTES. DB Sensor issues
the BBE1453W message and returns a return code 4.

    |BBE1333I DB SENSOR IS RETRYING SENSOR DATA COLLECTION FOR
    |INDEX DATABASE dbdname DD ddname.
    |Explanation:
    | DB Sensor is retrying to collect sensor data because some of
    | the VSAM statistics information retrieved from the z/OS
    | catalog has inconsistencies. The possible cause could be that
    | the database is being updated by an IMS application and,
    | therefore, VSAM statistics in the z/OS catalog is also being
    | updated.
    |System Action:
    | DB Sensor continues processing.
    |User Response:
    | None. This message is informational.

    |BBE1453W DB SENSOR COULD NOT COLLECT DATA FOR data_element FOR
    |DATABASE dbdname [, PARTITION partname].
    |Explanation:
    | DB Sensor failed to collect information for the indicated
    | data element for the indicated database or the HALDB
    | partition.
    |System Action:
    | DB Sensor continues processing without storing the data
    | element in the IMS Tools KB Sensor Data repository. When the
    | process is complete. DB Sensor ends with return code 4.
    |User Response:
    | See the description for message BBE1332I. If message BBE1332I
    | is not issued, contact IBM Software Support.
